Rector emeritus of the Universidad Bolivariana in Chile, where he is also the director of the Polis journal. He is member of the advising committee of the programme Chile Sustainable.
He was coordinator in Chile of the Programme Social Leadership, Poverty, Environment, Sustainable Development and the MERCOSUR. He was consultant of the PNUD, UNICEF, CEPAL in these same fields.
His research focuses on themes such as development at human scale, ecology, ethics, and epistemology. He is co-author of books such as: Development at human scale, Civil society and democratic culture, The significance of development or Human development and ethics for sustainability.
He collaborates as invited professor in various postgraduate programmes in universities in Spain, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil and Venzuela.
